Which Metaphor Describes your Job?

I love metaphors because they bypass unnecessary wordiness to succinctly express ideas in images. These images do miraculous things to human understanding. They take up wings. They fly. They receive air and breathe. They assume and form and capture the total essence of everything a writer could hope to express.

Metaphors have helped many people understand and properly capture their jobs, roles, and mission. Even Jesus captured his mission through several metaphors, not limited to the way, the truth, the life, the door, and the lamb.

Metaphors also help me better understand my roles to my esteemed friends and clients. While I have a toolbox full of metaphors that aptly describe all the best ways I can serve you, my favourite metaphor for my role and mission to my clients is the “Translator.”

No, that is not what I mean. No, you do not give me “unintelligible Greek” that I must translate into English. What I mean is this: often, writers pour out their passions and imaginations into their work in ways that best make sense to them, which for several reasons might not easily be understood by their target audience.

This is where I come in as a professional editor. My work is simply to turn your passionate sounds into harmonious music that your readers just love to listen to – oh Lord, another metaphor! Don’t you just love it? Over to you now. What metaphor best describes your profession?
